What is the best file format for DVD?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,,

If you mean "Play in a DVD player" it has to be MPEG2 and it needs to be "authored."

You can't just put the files on the DVD. DVDs have strict specifications.

We're talking 720x480 (NTSC) or 720x576 (PAL). Anything else has to be converted to this.

Some DVD players though will play the correct specifications....and the manufacturers also added the ability to play a whole bunch of other stuff to appeal to Asian markets. These are the 'generic' dvd players.

I'm in the UK to presumably I'd use PAL. I have videos which are in 1280x720 and 854x480. So would I need to export them as 720x576 instead?
